things to do in camden

We wanted to show Jane and Ryan a good time while they were here in Camden, so we took them to a few of our favorite spots.  To start, we hiked up Mount Battie to work off some of that absurdly large breakfast.  It's pretty steep in places, hence my neanderthal-esque pose in the picture below.

Even on a gray day the view from the top is pretty spectacular.  They have put up signs that show the names of all of the islands and mountains you can see from the top.  On a sunny day, it would be fun to picnic up here.  You can always drive to the top if you don't want to carry your food all the way up.

Solo shot.  Ryan loves posing for pictures all by himself.  With a face like that, who wouldn't?

Apparently, this cow lives for the solo shot too. Just look at her staring down the camera.  She's definitely putting us in our place.

So many Oreo cookie cows! Officially known as Belted Galloways, these guys at the Aldermere Farm in Rockport are a must see.  Hopefully, when you drive by they'll be out in their pastures.

The next stop on our tour is one of my all-time favorites, the Vesper Hill Children's Chapel also in Rockport.  It's a little wooden outdoor chapel surrounded by beautiful flowers.  And if you're Dan, you can take amazing pictures of said flowers.

Our day was rounded out by watching some World Cup on tv, napping, and going to dinner at a charming restaurant, Francine's Bistro.  All of the food was delicious and the menu changes daily, so you know everything is made with the freshest ingredients. Some favorites were duck breast with fried green tomatoes, chorizo grits and a chile sauce and local halibut with fresh crab meat, swiss chard and sweet peas.  Finally, we went to a bar downtown and enjoyed watching people sing their hearts out to some phenomenal karaoke.
